Confined Space & Gas Testing Training for Georgiou

Background

Confined space work presents significant risk in construction environments, particularly in sewer infrastructure, utilities, and civil projects.

Workers may be exposed to hazardous atmospheres, restricted access, engulfment risks, and oxygen-deficient environments.

Under WHS legislation, PCBUs must ensure strict controls are in place for confined space entry, including permits, atmospheric testing, and emergency response procedures.

Georgiou, working on the Main Roads Reid Highway Interchanges Project, engaged High Risk Training Academy Pty Ltd (RTO #46215) to deliver confined space and gas testing training to strengthen workforce capability and compliance.

Solution

HRTA delivered practical, hands-on training using its purpose-built mobile training trailer, designed to simulate real confined space entry scenarios.

Training included:

  • Atmospheric testing and gas detection
  • Confined space entry procedures
  • Permit systems and legal compliance requirements
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Emergency response and rescue preparedness

The training emphasised that compliance is not just documentation-based but requires practical understanding and competency.

HRTA worked closely with Georgiou personnel, including site leadership, to support strong engagement and alignment with operational conditions.

Outcome

Georgiou strengthened workforce competency in confined space entry and gas testing procedures.

Workers gained hands-on experience using gas detectors, permits, and safety systems in realistic scenarios.

The training improved confidence and preparedness for emergency response situations.

The use of the mobile training trailer significantly enhanced engagement and practical learning outcomes.

Georgiou demonstrated a strong commitment to safety, risk management, and continuous improvement on the project.

HRTA’s mobile training capability provided an efficient and effective solution for delivering high-risk training directly within live operational environments.
