What Will You Learn?

• Plan and prepare for working in confined space: Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements. Access, interpret and apply documentation required to enter and work in confined spaces. Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures according to workplace procedures. Obtain and confirm authorisation of a confined space entry permit that meets regulatory requirements. Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment for planned work activities. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures with the stand-by person, and be prepared for emergency situations. Identify, obtain and implement signage and barrier requirements according to workplace procedures. Select tools and equipment for the tasks, check for serviceability and rectify or report any faults to relevant personnel. Position rescue equipment by the entry permit.
• Work in confined space: Gain access to confined space. Test and monitor the atmosphere for harmful elements according to workplace procedures. Correctly apply tagging and lock-out procedures. Enter the confined space according to workplace procedures. Maintain ongoing communication with the stand-by person. Comply with entry permit requirements. Monitor and adhere to allocated entry time.
• Exit confined space: Exit confined space according to workplace procedures. Recover tools, equipment and materials. Conduct inspection of the confined spaces according to workplace procedures. Remove tagging and lock-out procedures. Complete confined space entry permit requirements according to workplace procedures.
• Clean up: Clear work area and dispose of materials according to workplace procedures. Remove, clean and store barriers and signs. Conduct equipment inspections to identify faults according to manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures and report to relevant personnel.
