Course Overview

White card course (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) is an induction health and safety course required prior to working in the construction industry or as part of construction activities in other industries.

This nationally recognised course covers the practical knowledge and skills participants need to work safely in the construction industry.

White Card training, also referred to as construction induction training, is a foundational health and safety course designed to provide essential knowledge and highlight the responsibilities for working safely in the construction industry, and its aim is to help prevent injuries or harm to yourself, your team and others. As the White Card is a requirement of the construction industry, and construction activities in other industries, it is important to complete it before taking other qualification and training steps.

In our nationally recognised course, participants will learn to identify and report common construction hazards, understand basic risk control measures, and follow procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. Where Can This Qualification Take You?

The White Card Course is designed for all workers that are required to perform construction work; including self employed persons, apprentices, labourers, tradespeople, supervisors, site managers, surveyors and project managers.

Prerequisites & Course Requirements

This white card course, which allows multi-industry application, is an important construction work course and prerequisite for entry-level positions within construction-related activities. It is also required for anybody working on construction sites.

Additional Requirements:

Persons must be 15 years of age or older
Photo ID must be presented i.e. current drivers licence, passport or proof of age card.
Basic numeracy skills.
Basic English language and literacy
USI Number
Appropriate clothing (Hi Vis shirt, long pants, with steel cap boots)

How Is the Course Delivered?

The CPCWHS1001 course is delivered through face-to-face training, on site at your preferred suitable location, ensuring participants gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment.

The course is designed to be completed in up to six (6) hours, giving participants a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

What Will You Learn?

Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work: Basic roles, responsibilities and rights of duty holders are identified and explained according to legislation. Duty of care requirements are identified. Construction safe work practices are identified and explained.
Identify construction hazards and risk control measures: Basic principles of risk management are identified. Construction hazards are identified and discussed. Purpose and use of PPE are identified and demonstrated. Measures for controlling hazards are identified.
Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes: Health and safety documents are identified and discussed. Roles of designated health and safety personnel are identified and explained. Safety signs and symbols are identified and explained. Procedures for reporting hazards, incidents and injuries are identified.
Identify incident and emergency response procedures: Procedures for responding to incidents and emergencies are identified and explained. Procedures for accessing first aid are identified. Types and purpose of fire safety equipment are identified and discussed.

Course Structure and Assessment

Students will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, scenario-based assessments, and written or verbal questioning.

This comprehensive assessment process ensures participants are fully competent in all aspects of General Construction Induction course before being awarded your qualification.

Licensing and Certification

Upon successful completion of this unit, participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for:

CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry and a WA WorkSafe Construction Induction White Card will also be provided.

Course Fees

The CPCWHS1001 course is available for $150

Please note:

High Risk Training Academy (HRTA), deliver and assess this course under a third-party agreement with AOTA RTO #91463.

Certificates are issued by AOTA Training after all documentation has been submitted and course fees paid.

AOTA issue the certificate upon successful completion of the course, typically within 7-10 business days.
