The Licence to Operate a Materials Hoist equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge to safely and legally operate a materials hoist on construction and industrial sites.

This nationally recognised qualification (CPCCLHS3002) is a legal requirement for workers who are responsible for moving materials vertically using a hoist.

Prerequisites & Course Requirements

Persons must be 18 years of age or older
Photo ID must be presented i.e. current drivers licence, passport or proof of age card.
Basic numeracy skills.
Basic English language and literacy
USI Number
Appropriate clothing (Hi Vis shirt, long pants, with steel cap boots)

How Is the Course Delivered?

Training is delivered through a combination of theory sessions and practical, hands-on activities:

Duration: 1 days
Location: On-site at your workplace
Mode: Face-to-face training and assessment

During this course, participants will gain practical skills and theoretical knowledge in:

- Understanding WHS legislation and safe work procedures
- Conducting pre-operational checks of materials hoists
- Planning work and identifying site hazards
- Correctly positioning and securing loads
- Operating a materials hoist safely and efficiently
- Emergency procedures and risk management
- Shutting down and securing equipment after use

Course Structure and Assessment

The course is a blend of onsite classroom-based learning and hands-on practical training. Participants will complete:

Theory Training – covering legislation, load safety, and operational requirements.
Practical Training – including setup, operation, and shutdown of a materials hoist.
Assessment – both written and practical, assessing knowledge and competency in safe hoist operation.

Assessments are conducted in line with Safe Work Australia and the National Assessment Instruments (NAI) to ensure compliance with licencing requirements.

Licensing and Certification

Upon successful completion of this unit, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for CPCCLHS3002 – Licence to Operate a Materials Hoist.

Participants can then apply to the relevant state or territory Work Health and Safety (WHS) authority (e.g., WorkSafe WA) to receive your High Risk Work Licence (Class HM – Materials Hoist).

Course Fees

The CPCCLHS3002 course is available for $500

Please note:

High Risk Training Academy (HRTA), deliver and assess this course under a third-party agreement with Halo Nation Training RTO #32485.

Certificates are issued by Halo Nation Training after all documentation has been submitted and course fees paid.

Halo Nation Training issue your certificate upon successful completion of your course, typically within 7-10 business days.
