Operate a Gantry or Overhead Crane and RIIHAN203E Conducting Lifting Operations course.

This course equips participants with the necessary skills to operate a gantry or overhead crane, including planning, preparing, and performing operational servicing with three or fewer movements using a pendant or remote control. Participants will also develop the skills and knowledge required to conduct lifting operations in the resources and infrastructure industries, such as creating preliminary lifting plans, directing load movements, connecting loads to movement devices, and ensuring load stability.

The combined RIIHAN305D + RIIHHAN203E course is delivered through face-to-face training, on site at your preferred suitable location, ensuring participants gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment.

This combined course is designed to be completed in up to one (1) day, giving participants a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

What Will You Learn?

RIIHAN305D – Operate a Gantry or Overhead Crane

Plan and prepare for gantry/overhead crane operations: Access, interpret and apply crane operation documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant. Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements. Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures. Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities. Coordinate activities with others prior to commencement and throughout operations.
Operate gantry/overhead crane: Prepare load for lift in accordance with crane limitations and rigging requirements. Perform pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures. Confirm the work area hazards are removed or controlled prior to commencing the lift. Interpret signals. Operate controls to lift, transfer and lower loads. Monitor lift operations and ensure compliance.
Perform gantry/overhead crane operator maintenance: Inspect crane for faults. Perform routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks. Process written records.

RIIHAN203E Conducting Lifting Operations course.

Plan and prepare for lifting operations: Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements. Access, interpret and apply documentation to conduct lifting operations. Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures according to site requirements. Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements. Develop preliminary lifting plan according to job and site requirements. Check and confirm job feasibility and schedule with load designer and personnel involved in lifting operations. Finalise and confirm lifting plan according to job and site requirements
Prepare for lifting: Identify, select, inspect and assemble lifting equipment, materials and tools required for planned lift according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements. Label unserviceable equipment, materials and tools according to site requirements
Move loads: Identify and confirm safe working loads and centre of gravity according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements. Direct load movement, according to site requirements, using standard load moving signals. Perform load moving according to lifting plan, manufacturer specifications and site requirements. Connect lifting gear to load according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements. Connect load to movement device using appropriate and certified equipment according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements. Comply with required specifications during placement and securing of load

Students will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, scenario-based assessments, and written or verbal questioning.

This comprehensive assessment process ensures participants are fully competent in all aspects of Operating a Gantry or Overhead Crane and Conducting Lifting Operations before being awarded their qualifications.

Licensing and Certification

Upon successful completion of this unit, participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for:

RIIHAN203E – Conducting Lifting Operations
