Prerequisites & Course Requirements

Important note: While not mandatory, we strongly recommend that participants have prior crane operating experience ideally including a dogging licence and a C6 crane licence.

The CO course is intensive and assumes a solid understanding of crane operation principles. Refunds are not available for candidates who are assessed as not yet competent.

How Is the Course Delivered?

The TLILIC0020 course is delivered through face-to-face training, on site at your preferred suitable location, ensuring participants gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment.

The course is designed to be completed in up to four (4) days, Students will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical application skills.

The course focuses on complex lift planning, advanced load management, precision operation, and strict compliance with high-risk work legislation. You’ll learn about:

Legislation & Compliance: High-risk WHS legislation, HRWL requirements, and safety frameworks governing large-capacity crane operations.
Complex Crane Setup: Advanced site assessment, counterweight configuration, outrigger deployment, and crane stability analysis for major lifts.
Detailed Pre-Operational Assessments: Inspecting large-scale crane components, hydraulic systems, boom assemblies, and rigging gear.
Load Chart Interpretation: Working with highly detailed charts covering extreme radii, multiple boom configurations, superlift systems, and heavy lifting modes.
Crane Operation: Safely operating high-capacity cranes – precision slewing, boom adjustments, hoisting, and navigating major load movements.
Advanced Lift Execution: Conducting critical lifts, tandem lifts, heavy industrial lifts, and high-risk tasks requiring exceptional accuracy and coordination.
Post-Operational & Shutdown Procedures: Performing advanced crane securing, inspection, and maintenance checks following large-scale operations.
High-Level Team Coordination: Collaborating with lift planners, engineers, doggers, riggers, supervisors, and safety officers during major lifting projects.
High-Risk Emergency Response: Responding to major incidents such as structural instability, component failure, or load collapse in extreme conditions.

Course Structure and Assessment

Students will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, scenario-based assessments, and written or verbal questioning.

This comprehensive assessment process ensures you are fully competent in all aspects of basic demolition before being awarded your qualification.

Licensing and Certification

On successful completion of the Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (over 100 Tonnes), candidates will receive a Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0020 CO – Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (over 100 Tonnes).

High Risk Training Academy (HRTA), deliver and assess this course under a third-party agreement with AOTA RTO #91463.

Certificates are issued by AOTA Training after all documentation has been submitted and course fees paid. AOTA issue your certificate upon successful completion of your course, typically within 7-10 days.
