A new bakery facility being developed 70km south of Perth required a team of operators to run highly specialised production equipment. Due to the technical nature of the machinery and a shortage of suitably qualified local workers, the client recruited skilled personnel from overseas including China and Poland.
While these operators held relevant experience and qualifications in their home countries, they still needed to meet Australian safety and compliance requirements before they could begin operating equipment on site. Ensuring this training was completed efficiently was essential so the facility could commence operations on schedule.
The client was referred to High Risk Training Academy (HRTA) through a recruitment agency. With the new facility located in Nambeelup, HRTA’s mobile training model – delivering training directly at the workplace – provided a practical solution.
Before training commenced, HRTA consulted with the client to understand the project requirements and workforce needs. A site visit was then conducted to assess the environment and determine the most effective training approach.
Over a six-month period, HRTA delivered a series of on-site courses to 15 workers, including:
Training was conducted using the client’s own equipment, allowing workers to learn in the same environment in which they would be operating day-to-day.
A key challenge was that English was a second language for some participants. While the workers were already skilled and experienced, HRTA ensured they were supported through the training process, allowing additional time where needed while still maintaining all Australian compliance requirements.
By delivering training directly on site, HRTA enabled the workforce to obtain the necessary certifications with minimal disruption to construction operations. The client successfully met their project deadlines and has since established an ongoing training program with HRTA to support their team as operations continue to grow.
